Garbage Service
Effective January 1, 2025 the City of Harlem has renewed the Municipal Solid Waste & Single Stream Services with Coastal Waste & Recycling for a period of 8 years. Garbage and recycle carts are provided thru the City of Harlem. Both carts are approximately 95 gallons with the recycling cart having a different color lid. Participation in recycling is not a required service; it is optional. With the renewal of the contract there are new rates for residential and commercial services to include a rate for the recycle service. A copy of the new rates is attached below. All older carts will be replaced the first week of February 2025; those who may have started service in December and January will have already received the newer carts. If you have not signed up for recycle service by January 1, you will no longer receive the service starting at that time; only those who have contacted us will receive the service starting January 8th. This will continue to be a bi-weekly service and will continue to be serviced on Wednesday. Currently this service will continue on the old schedule for recycling which consisted of two routes; "A" and "B". The "A" route is the former Thursday garbage route; the "B" route is the former Friday garbage route.
Garbage Service will be on a four day a week service and will be four different routes:
- Monday-Route 1-Blue
- Tuesday-Route 2-Purple
- Thursday-Route 3-Orange
- Friday-Route 4-Pink

To set up service, please contact City Hall at 706-556-3448 and speak with our Utility Clerk, Terrie Rigdon or the Asst. Clerk, Christy Reese and they will be glad to help you. Also, use this number in the event you have any service issues so that we may follow-up with Coastal.
