Present:  COUNCILMEMBERS:  Mayor Scott Dean, Councilman Tom Blalock, Councilwoman Robin M. Root, and Councilman John Thigpen; STAFF:  City Manager Jean R. Dove and City Clerk Debra E. Moore.  ABSENT:  Mayor Pro tem Rudolph Dixon.  VISITORS:  None.

 

The Hearing was called to order by Mayor Dean at 6:30 p.m.

 

The Invocation was given by Councilman Blalock.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Thigpen.

 

Mayor Dean announced that the purpose of this meeting was to receive any public comment on the 2007 tax mill rate and that this was the first of three mandatory hearings.  The approved rate for 2007 is 5.35; this is down from 5.42 in 2006.  The total taxes levied for 2007 is $225,034.00; and increase of 13.74% over last year.  The increase is due to the increase of property values and the additions to our tax base.

 

Mayor Dean opened the floor for any public comment; being none, Mayor Dean announced that the next hearing would be held on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. and the final hearing would be held that evening at 6:30 p.m. prior to the Regular Council meeting.

 

Mayor Dean closed the hearing at 6:31 p.m.

The Hearing was called to order by Mayor Dean at 6:30 p.m.

 

Mayor Dean announced that this was the third and final hearing on the approved tax mill rate for 2007.  The rate is 5.35; down from 5.42 in 2006.  The total taxes levied for 2007 are $225,034.00; an increase of $27,192.00 or 13.74% over 2006.  The increase is due to an increase in assessed property values and an increase from new additions to the digest. 

 

Mayor Dean opened the floor for final public comment; being none, the 2007 tax mill rate will stand as approved at the June 27, 2007 Called Meeting at the rate of 5.35 mils. 

 

Mayor Dean closed the hearing at 6:31 p.m.
